NEW YORK (AP) — Chubby Checker has a simple message for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: he wants in.

The man who helped popularize “The Twist” says he wants to be inducted — while he’s “still smiling.”

He says if the Cleveland, Ohio-based Rock Hall waits too long, he says he will — as he put it — “tell them to drop dead.”

Checker is 72 — and in recent years has been outspoken about what he feels are slights at the hand of the music industry.

Checker says if acts like the Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys and Hall and Oates are in the Rock Hall, he deserves to get in, too.
